Pinned, Writhing
Pinned, Writhing is a graphic novelette and artist book created during my artist
residency at the SVA RisoLAB. The work surveys how comic language can portray long, indeterminate periods of time while maintaining spatial and emotional specificity. Conceptual influences included writers such as Kierkegaard and Fanon.
Risograph became the mediator between clay, oil pastel, ink, and photographic elements. While the print method typically only sizes up to 11” by 17” I was enamored with the idea of a big book after being exposed to large scale prints at the archives. The final dimensions came out to 10” by 13” closed and 20” by 13” open.
